Modi Concludes Five-Nation Diplomatic Tour with Strategic Agreements, Global Recognition and Symbolic Cultural Exchanges

Prime Minister Narendra Modi concluded his five-nation diplomatic tour across the UAE, Netherlands, Sweden, Norway and Italy with more than 15 strategic agreements, a major trade target with Italy, and the prestigious FAO Agricola Medal 2026. The visit highlighted India’s focus on energy, artificial intelligence, semiconductors, green energy and agricultural transformation.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi concluded his five-nation diplomatic tour from May 15 to 20 after securing major international agreements, strengthening trade partnerships, and receiving one of the highest recognitions from the Food and Agriculture Organization in Rome. The visit covered the United Arab Emirates, the Netherlands, Sweden, Norway and Italy, marking a significant push in India’s global economic and strategic outreach.

During the high-profile tour, India signed more than 15 Memorandums of Understanding focused on energy security, semiconductors, artificial intelligence, green energy and trade cooperation. The agreements reflected India’s expanding role in emerging technologies and sustainable development partnerships with Europe and the Gulf region.

A major outcome of the visit was the ambitious trade target established with Italy, where both sides aimed to achieve trade worth €20 billion by 2029. The discussions also focused on strengthening long-term economic collaboration and accelerating cooperation in advanced manufacturing and clean energy sectors.

In Rome, Prime Minister Modi received the FAO Agricola Medal 2026 from the Food and Agriculture Organization. The honour recognised India’s transformation in food security and sustainable agriculture under his leadership. Modi dedicated the award to India’s 110 million farmers and highlighted the country’s progress in natural farming, climate-resilient agricultural practices and improved food production systems.

The diplomatic mission also carried strong cultural and personal symbolism. Modi presented Assam’s renowned golden Muga silk as a cultural gift during the visit, showcasing India’s traditional heritage on the international stage. The tour also attracted public attention for a light-hearted chocolate exchange involving Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, a moment that generated applause among supporters while also drawing criticism from sections of the opposition.
